The Incredible Shrinking Man - How Clent lost 200 pounds on The Hallelujah Diet (Part 2)

On the flipside, Miven and I couldn’t find ANY documentation of someone losing weight on the standard American diet (SAD diet) that did not have hanging skin after losing this amount of weight. Everyone had hanging skin, and they all had to find a way to get rid of it and that can cost up to $30,000. In fact, we read about one lady who had lost a lot of weight and had a lot of hanging skin. However, after two years of drinking green smoothies and barley grass, her skin shrank back up. But I can tell you personally, it’s a lot better to do it while you’re losing the weight; my skin is actually tightening up around the fat that I have left. It’s just amazing. I’m living proof that people who lose weight on a primarily raw food diet will lose the skin the goes along with it – from 400 to 200 pounds.
My goal is to get down to 170 pounds. I’m hoping to be the first man ever to lose 230 pounds on a raw food diet and climb a mountain – all within one year. I’ll be 40 years old in April.
On January 26, 2008 I weighed 401 pounds. I started losing 22 pounds week, then 15, then seven for a while, and I’m still losing about three pounds a week. I’m only 30 pounds away from my ideal weight of 170 pounds.
My doctors are blown away. When I tell them I’m getting my protein through raw fruits and vegetables, they agree that I can get protein but they aren’t convinced it’s the right “kind” of protein. But obviously, from my blood work results, everything is in the right range. In fact, my albumins, my proteins are all in the very high range of “normal”. Every single reading on my blood test is in the normal range, including cholesterol.
When I tell my doctors about this, they curl up their nose and say “how can you do that? I have to eat meat”. Doctors believe that’s the only course you can go because people have been believing it and doing it for so long. Although, they had to agree that everyone could benefit from eating a primarily raw food diet.
I found that green smoothies were a great way to help me get past that craving for meat in the first eight weeks. After that, it was no problem. Now I can have a pizza or rotisserie chicken right under my nose and, even though it smells wonderful, I have no desire to eat it. I salivate when I see red bell peppers now.
At my job, everyone is asking me about my weight loss. So I came up with a green smoothie challenge. I thought it would help people get the motivation they need to see Dr. Donato and start learning all about The Hallelujah Diet. You have to have that background to fall back on; otherwise, when you fail, you’re going to make the wrong choices and go right back to meat and candy.
I still use The Hallelujah Diet every day; but I’m choosing not to cook my “cooked food” portion. I lost 52 pounds the first time I went on the 85% raw – 15% cooked plan for seven weeks. But for me, because of the amount of weight I needed to lose, I needed to go 100% raw, and that’s when the weight really flew off.
I still use BarleyMax today and I had been using the Digestive Enzymes supplement when I was losing a lot of weight really fast. When you lose that amount of fat, that fast, it’s really hard on your liver, because fat is the way the body stores acid. So when you lose the fat, all this acid is released into your bloodstream and it’s really hard on your liver; so I was taking the enzymes to support my liver. I do carrot juice and BarleyMax every single day. When you combine the BarleyMax with green smoothies – all that chlorophyll – I’m telling you, it really does make your skin shrink.
And I love Rhonda Malkmus’ recipe for avocado dressing – it beats anything out there! It’s my favorite dressing on salads.
About once a month I go to Providence Hospital with Dr. Donato for his presentation called “Back to the Garden” to let people know about his boot camp, where they can learn about The Hallelujah Diet. It started off as small groups of about 10 people, and now it’s up to 80 people.
To have beaten diabetes, lost 200 pounds, climbing a mountain, and had thousands of people following my example — all in less than a year — is just amazing. I’m absolutely going to stick to The Hallelujah Diet down the road. I’m going to stick to raw for the rest of my life.
